Overview
Firefly sits inside Stone Town’s lattice of narrow streets, in a building whose lime-plastered walls hold the heat and turn amber as the afternoon goes on. The brief was to photograph it the way a guest actually meets it — in fragments, around corners, through doorways — rather than as a sequence of cleared, symmetrical rooms.
Almost everything here is available light. The interiors are deliberately underexposed to keep the glow of the lamps and the depth of the plaster, and the frames are built around the things the owners made by hand: driftwood picture frames, crate shelving, shell garlands, coconut husks replanted as pots.
